About Jeff

The great thing about having your own blog is that you can say anything you want. The downside to having your own blog is that you can say anything you want.

My grand plan is to talk about the things that interest me, comment on the things that I feel need commented on, share stuff that I want to share — and do it all without coming across like a complete dork even though that may very well be exactly what I am.

What interests me, you ask? Maybe if I share a little about who I am and what I do, I can paint a better picture than if I offer you a simple list.

I’m the managing editor for The Mac Observer.  I co-host TMO‘s Apple Context Machine podcast with Bryan Chaffin, and as if that isn’t enough to keep me busy I appear pretty much every week on the We Have Communicators podcast, too, with Michael Johnston and Adam Christianson.

Here’s a shout-out to all of you Design Tools Monthly readers out there. You may not know exactly which articles I write each month, but they are in there. My business card for DTM says I’m contributing editor. I’m pretty sure that means I need to watch Jay Nelson’s (editor and publisher) back whenever we travel to conferences and expos. Jay and I have a sometimes podcast, too. It’s called Design Tools Weekly.

And how about Chuck Joiner’s MacVoices and MacJury? Yeah, I show up there, too.

I also write the InBrief column for InDesign Magazine, and occasionally write for Layers and Photoshop User Magazines. Of course, I have to toss in the obligatory plug for my book, The Designer’s Guide to Mac OS X from Peachpit Press.

That said, let’s move on to the other stuff in my life. I totally dig my Sci-Fi. All flavors of Trek are great, I love Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly rocks the house.

I live in Colorado, so the mountains are my playground. I’ve climbed about half of the 14ers, love snowshoeing, and getting my mountain bike dirty. I haven’t been skiing for several years because it’s just too damn expensive… maybe I’ll break down and go again this year.

OK, so that’s me in a nut shell. Enjoy what I have to say, or not. Odds are I’ll keep writing regardless of what you think. I just can’t help myself — it’s what I do.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Jeff.
